My history

One Easter morning in 2006 would prove to be the start of a tour to hell and back.

I woke up with a very strange sensation in my arm; it was like sleeping and felt heavy and dead.  My body was tired, and I felt that I had mild fever and pain in the upper part of my back, and numbness and tingling feelings in my back.  It was as if there were small animals under my skin.  I was obviously very scared, and knew there was something seriously wrong.

I walked around all day, waiting to get the feeling back in my arm, but it did not happen.  When my boyfriend came home from work, he took care of our children and I went to the emergency room.
I was examined and sent home again later that evening, with the message that it was probably a flue – like illness.

The same night I had to call the ambulance, because I started having nerve numbness symptoms in my face.
I had spinning sensations in my hands and feet and I had an area in my back without any feelings.  I was hospitalized and it was the start of many neurological tests, scans, and much more.

Eventually I was diagnosed with stress.

I spent days, months and years to seek out specialty doctors, therapists and psychologists - all without effect.
I read all the literature I could find in the area, to train myself to understand what happened to me.
I was now only a shadow of myself, I had anxiety and I was depressed, and there was no help, since doctors could not detect anything in my tests.

After 2 years of illness, I agreed to try antidepressant medication.
The hope was that it would probably make my symptoms go away!  But nothing happened.

The breakthrough came one night when I fell over an article on Lyme disease, and that Lyme tests in Denmark was unreliable.
I also found an article about some specialists in Germany, which only worked with Lyme disease.  (Borreliose Centre Augsburg)
I had a consultation with doctors there, and a week after I got diagnosed with Lyme disease and co- infections - all detected in the blood samples, I had made.

I was very happy to get a diagnosis.  Now I could begin the fight - back to life.

I asked the Danish health system for treatment, but to my surprise they said no, although that I showed them all my test results.

By then I had struggled with the Danish doctors in almost two and a half years to find a diagnose, and when I finally got the diagnose at Borreliose Centre Augsburg, I also had to fight for my rights as a patient in the Danish health system.

I lost this battle with the Danish health system as they did not approve of the tests from Borreliose Centrum Augsburg, and eventually I had to pay myself for all medical treatment in Germany.

Getting in consultation with the specialists in Augsburg was like stepping into a whole new world, full of bright hope and joy.

I now feel much better. I still get medicine,  I'm not totally healed, but I am on the right track.

I do not dare to think how it would have gone without Borreliose Centre Augsburg.
